Circle of Friends

Daisy, Howdy and Speckles.jpg

A couple of weeks ago my sewing circle, the Red and Green Girls, came here for the day. We had lunch, we looked at quilts, we stitched and enjoyed each other. It was a lovely spring day, the sun was shining, the meadow larks around our house were in full voice and spreading their form of good cheer. Altogether it was a wonderful time. As they were leaving Annette snapped the above photo of our neighbor’s dogs who spend a good deal of their time on our porches.

The dogs, Howdy (the cocker spaniel with three legs), Speckles (the dalmatian), and Daisy (the weimaraner) started visiting our house while it was still under construction. The construction workers were nice to them and so when we arrived they already felt some ownership. Since we, too, treated them well they stayed. The muddy footprints on the sidewalks and the porch are an annoyance, but a companion (or two, or three) for a walk is always nice.

These dogs are a bit like my quilt group, they are a circle of friends who look out for each other, keep each other company, and who accept the others exactly how they are.

I love this photo and the idea of friendly, visiting canines! It sounds like the good old days when the neighborhood kids wandered back and forth to each other’s houses and everyone looked out for them.

    Jeana,
You did such a wonderful job in the “Sewing Room” on lap quilting. Would you consider a lesson in joining seams (handstitching, of course) to reinforce what you taught our class in Denver in 2005?
I couldn’t find a way to ask this question in that area but I do love your dog picture.
