He was born late in the afternoon one cold and windy February day over thirty years ago. As a new mother I did not know what to expect, but I was totally unprepared for the perfectly-formed beautiful baby that was placed in my arms. I held him through that first night of his life unable to sleep. I was filled with joy and unbelief that I had been privileged to receive this special one.

Somehow I knew from the first that he was an extraordinary and valiant soul. When his baby sister was born he was careful and kind. I am not saying he was perfect or that their relationship was always calm, but he was always protective and loyal to her.

As I have watched him grown and develop into a young man, husband, father and into the gentle man he now is, I am in awe of his wisdom, character and integrity.

This son of mine has made good and wise choices at every junction along his road of life. So often in this world it is the bad boys and rebels who capture the headlines, but they are not the ones who make this world a better place to live.

Armed with graduate degrees in environmental studies and business, our son has chosen an occupation that provides a good living for his family and one that allows him to safeguard the health and welfare of people and to protect our environment. He is a hero in the lives of many.
