One day many years ago our young son announced at dinner that our neighbors were getting ready to move.”How do you know that?” we asked.”Because of the home improvements they are making,” he said.”What are they doing?”
“They bought a ‘bug zapper’ for their back porch,” was his triumphant reply.
These days we are making improvements of our own, but no bug zapper. This weekend we bought rocking chairs for the front porch. In recent weeks we have planted fruit and shade trees, shrubs, rose bushes, and a few herbs.

They all look small and vulnerable with so much open space surrounding them. A new house with a bare landscape is an opportunity to create from scratch, but it sure is a lot of hard physical labor. The grass will soon be planted. A garden spot is planned and a few vegetables are growing there. However, there is a huge amount of land left and a long line of immense limestone boulders yet to be dealt with.

They were dug up from under our property when the house was built. I understand that they are quite valuable for landscaping but deciding which ones to keep and where to put them is a bit overwhelming, especially when there are so many and they are so large.
Meanwhile, we won’t let the things yet to be done spoil our time while we rock on the front porch sipping lemonade on this very warm summer’s day.

Jeana, Your porch looks so inviting! It appears to be a relaxing place to while away a quiet afternoon, stitching. Thanks for sharing it with us.
