Here are a few simple pleasures I have enjoyed in recent days:
The sight of sunflowers growing thick and wild along the sides of the road. To me they are the color of summer.
The softer than velvet feel of a horse’s nose. On my daily walk I often pause to visit a beautiful smoky gray horse whose pen is next to the road.
The amazingly sweet and delicate taste of freshly picked raspberries, sun warmed and matured on the cane.
The musky evening smell of a newly mown hayfield on a country lane. Whenever I think of hay I remember my paternal Grandfather who always called it lucerne.
The sight of contented cows grazing in a deeply green meadow. Their facial expressions reflect complete satisfaction.
The hoots and squeals young swimmers enjoying an afternoon dip in Gordons Pond. (Gordons Pond is an irrigation pond about a quarter mile from here that is both a trout pond with good fishing, and a swimming hole for those willing to brave the cold water.)
