Starlight

Moon Struck.jpg

“Moonstruck” a block from my Fairmeadow quilt. It is available in my book by the same name.

With the change from Daylight Savings Time I rose extra early this morning and had the rare treat of stitching, while wide awake, for three hours from 5:00 a.m. until my usual stopping time of 8:00 a.m. Although it was dark most of that time, the stars were good company. Living in the country I am daily aware of stars in the night sky. Without the light pollution that comes from large communities, every night is a light show of stars here.

When the moon is full, the night sky is so bright that walks after dark are enjoyable and light. A few weeks ago we took such a walk with our two-year-old granddaughter. Her flashlight was pointed skyward for the entire walk as she “lit up” the stars for us to see. I remember my Grandmother telling stories of playing outdoor games such as “Run Sheep Run”and “Hide and Seek” by moonlight. Since moving here I understand perfectly the possibilities in that.
Last night the stars seemed brighter than usual, maybe it was the thin, cold air, but the nighttime view outside my windows was magnificent.
