No little girl growing up ever enjoyed playing with dolls more that I did. There were five girls in my family and so each of our Christmas dolls came with just one change of clothes and maybe, if we were lucky, we got a nightgown for our dolly as well. Because it was so important to me, when I got older I made those extra doll clothes myself. In fact, making doll clothes was my first attempt at sewing.
In due time I became a mother and I remembered how precious that one outfit was and how much I wished that I had a trunk full of outfits for my new doll. You remember those pink metal doll trunks with a place for storing the doll and even a place to hang her extra clothes don’t you?
When our daughter was old enough to play with dolls, she got a several outfits for her new doll—and a pink trunk—every year. She was very spoiled. I’ll have to admit, however, that by the time she outgrew dolls I was ready to stop making doll clothes.
The next generation of girls has arrived in our family and now Grandma Jeana is back in the business of making doll clothes. Above are two of our four granddaughters walking their dolls in outfits I made earlier this year. Can you guess what I will be doing in my spare time for the next few weeks?
