Teaching in Michigan

west michigan quilt guild.jpg

I’ve been to Michigan this past week and was treated to the hospitality of quilters in both Grand Rapids and Flint. The Grand Rapids guild (West Michigan Quilt Guild) is a lovely organization of over 400 quiltmakers. This was the fifth or sixth time I have taught classes in Grand Rapids and each visit has been better than the last. The guild members enthusiasm for my work and for learning my techniques was very gratifying. I stayed with my good friend Linda Gabrielse who was a perfect hostess.

During mid-week Linda drove me to Flint for a lecture and a workshop with the Evening Star Quilters Guild. The group in Flint is a smaller guild whose affection and support of each other was evident in both the show and tell portion of the meeting as well as during class. Mary Seymour, Vice President in charge of programs, was great to work with and she spoiled all of the class participants with goodie bags and door prizes.

What a wonderful time I had enjoying the generous spirit of quiltmakers across the state of Michigan. The heartland of America is also the heart of great quilters and quiltmaking.

Jeana your recent retreat sounds like it was great. Will the pattern/book for Old Fashioned be made available on the open market?

    I really admire your work.
