Join Jeana Kimball and fellow appliqué enthusiasts for a year-long appliqué class. This all new design was created exclusively for Jeana’s 2011-12 students.

Each month students will be mailed a printed copy of the designs for that month (an average of two each month, plus corner pieces and border). You will also receive a written lesson on the month’s topic and color photos of that month’s appliqué blocks.

A Yahoo group has been organized for members of the class and all students—both local and online—are invited to join.

For those who do not know about Yahoo groups, members of a particular group correspond via e-mail that is delivered to everyone’s inbox. All questions, answers, and discussion are automatically sent to everyone so we are all “on the same page” all of the time. Also, members can post photos of their finished blocks on the group’s page so everyone can watch the progress as each quilt develops. There is no cost to join a Yahoo group. You simply open an account with Yahoo which only requires your name, an e-mail address, and a password (all other information is optional). Our Yahoo group will be a forum of those who belong to the Cottage Garden class only.

At the end of our year-long class, students are additionally invited to a three day retreat/class in July 2012 in Utah, to show and share your quilt, to meet fellow students and to have a great time together. Travel, meals, and lodging expenses during the three-day retreat class are not included in class fees. Lodging must be arranged on your own. We will send you a list of area bed & breakfast locations and motels. Should you decide to come in July, each student is responsible for their own travel, meals and lodging expenses. We will provide food and snacks on the retreat days. There may be a nominal additional cost for the meeting facility. More details about the retreat will be provided to students after January 1, 2012.

Enrollment will remain open until May 15, 2012. Should you learn of this class after it has already begun you may still join. We will send you all of the patterns and lessons you have missed to catch you up with the rest of the class. The fee will remain the same regardless of when you join the group.

Class Description for Cottage Garden

Bring your garden indoors with this charming appliqué quilt. Inspired by quiltmakers from the 1930s, students Jeana has designed a happy quilt that features realistic garden flowers in an attractive setting exclusively for her 2011 students.

The twenty-five individual 7” blocks in the Cottage Garden quilt are simple with just a single stem, two easy leaves and one or two blossoms. Each realistic flower is uncomplicated with mostly simple shapes and easy pieces to give you the practice you need to become proficient at appliqué. With Jeana’s clear and patient instruction, you will find that appliqué is much easier than you may have previously thought. In addition to owning a fine, one-of-a-kind appliqué quilt at the end of this year-long class, you will become an accomplished appliqué quiltmaker.

You deserve this year-long class where not only quilt patterns and instruction will be liberally given, but enduring friendships form. We will explore trends and thinking from our grandmothers’ generation with a lesson each month on some aspect of their lives.
